Soft body, sharp mind
Train the animal, then learn to keep it on a leash.
Why
We don't train to fight strangers. We train so the body remembers how to hold its ground, so the breath stays long under pressure, so the mind doesn't fold the first time it is leaned on.
A trained person who never has to fight is the point. The discipline is the gift.
